Computers 101

Become an Online Learner
Need to learn more about software like Access, Excel, Flash, Outlook, and Word?  We will introduce LearningExpress Library where you can learn at your own pace and at your own convenience.

Email Clinics
Improve your use of email in this hands-on workshop.  Learn how to send group e-mail messages while preserving the privacy of the recipients, create folders, or attach a photo or document.  Must have valid email account with either Gmail or Yahoo! (includes sbcglobal.net/att.net users).

File Management Basics
Master the basics of file management using Microsoft Windows XP.  Learn to create, name, find, and delete files and folders.  Mouse skills required.

Google This!
Explore some of the many features of Google, including advanced search, alerts, iGoogle and more.

Internet Basics
Understand the basics of exploring the Internet in this introductory course.

Start Your Search Engines!
This class is designed for those who have had some experience searching the Internet and want to learn tips & tricks for using search engines like Google and search directories like Yahoo! to find information. Previous experience using the Internet required.

Word Processing Basics for Seniors
Tired of the typewriter?  Get familiar with word processing using features such as “cut-and-paste” and changing the fonts.  Mouse and keyboarding experience are recommended.  Presentation

Beginning Excel® 2007
Being able to enter and manipulate data is an essential job skill.  Learn the basics of working with the Microsoft Excel® 2007 spreadsheet program during this class for beginners.  Mouse and keyboarding skills required.  Presentation

Beginning PowerPoint® 2007
Learn the basics of developing a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint® 2007. Mouse skills required.

Create Your Own Business Card
This class will use Microsoft Publisher® 2007 to help you create your own business card. The Library will provide one sheet of printed business cards (10 total) for each participant.  To save your design, please bring a flash drive (USB).  Presentation

A continuation of the skills learned in Beginning Excel® 2007.  Presentation  Exercise

PowerPoint 2007® - Next Steps
Learn some features of Microsoft PowerPoint® 2007 that will liven up your presentations, such as slide transitions and animations. Previous PowerPoint experience required.  Presentation  Exercise

A continuation of the skills learned in Beginning Word® 2007. 

Digital Media

Digital Downloads
Learn the basic ins and outs of downloading various electronic formats: e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-videos.  We’ll show you where to find them and how to get started.  A Crystal Lake Library card is required for this class.

Working with Your Digital Camera for Beginners
Learn how to connect your digital camera to a computer and to use basic photo manipulation techniques.  After a short break, we will then practice sending pictures by email. Please bring your digital camera, memory card, and cables.  For the email portion, you will need to have an existing email account that you can access away from home.
